Eligibility Criteria for PMJJBY

To enroll in PMJJBY you must meet some requirements:

  • Applicant’s age must be between 18 to 50 years at time of first enrollment.

  • Must have a savings bank / post office account in India.

  • Should give consent for auto-debit of premium each year.

  • You can have only one insurance cover through one saving account, even if you hold multiple accounts.

  • Aadhar should be linked to your bank account for easy KYC process

PMJJBY Premium and Coverage Period

  • The yearly premium of INR 436 gets auto-debited once every year.

  • Coverage is for 1st June to 31st May of next year, can be renewed each time by payment of premium before expiry.

  • If the premium is not paid on time due to insufficient money in account, the policy will be lapse, but you can also re-join by submitting fresh application and self-declaration of health.

Claim Settlement under PMJJBY

PMJJBY offer very simple claim process:

  • Nominee needs to inform the bank/post office where policy was taken, and submit death certificate of the policy holder.

  • Nominee fills claim form with required paperwork (nominee’s ID proof, cancelled cheque, etc.).

  • Bank/insurance company checks and process claim, if found genuine, then ₹2 lakh will be paid directly in nominee’s bank account.

PMJJBY Apply Online and Offline

  • Online: Most major banks offer online application via their net-banking portal. Look for ‘PMJJBY’ under insurance/social security schemes tab, fill online consent form, and auto-debit will be setup.

  • Offline: You can visit your bank or post office branch and submit the filled PMJJBY application form along with photocopy of Aadhar card and bank account proof. Forms are available in English and regional languages on government portals.

Step By Step PMJJBY Application Process

  1. Download or collect “Consent-cum-Declaration” form from your bank, post office or official website.

  2. Fill the form with clear details (name, date of birth, bank account, nominee, etc.).

  3. Attach documents (self-attested). Submit at your bank branch or business correspondent.

  4. Upon successful processing, you will receive “Acknowledgement Slip cum Certificate of Insurance”.
