Ayushman Bharat Yojana: Ayushman Bharat Yojana, also known as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), is one of the biggest healthcare schemes launched by the Government of India on 23 September 2018. The main aim of this flagship initiative is to provide health cover to economically weaker and vulnerable families across India, especially targeting the bottom 40% of the population. This scheme offers a financial health cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalization care, through a network of empanelled public and private hospitals nationwide.
The scheme is designed to ensure universal health coverage (UHC) and promote access to quality healthcare services without pushing families into financial distress. It was launched to fulfill the vision of the National Health Policy 2017 and aligns with Sustainable Development Goals to "leave no one behind" in healthcare access.
